It’s no secret that I’m way out of shape. I’m as out of shape as they come. More or less, anyway. I can handle walking 5-10 kilometers every day at work, but anything more than that and I’m spent for the rest of the day.
As it is right now, I don’t have a bike that will carry me, let alone anyone else. So the first thing to do is to get the bike back in working order. The bike is a Raleigh Max Lite HT2 Mountainbike if that means anything to anybody. It’s from 1998-1999 or sometime thereabout. It’s an aluminum frame fittet with mostly Shimano Deore parts (as far as I can see).
With some help from a friend of mine, I ordered the following bits and pieces from an online bike parts dealer:
- Two Schwalbe No. 13 Tubes (26×1,5-2,5 SV 36 mm)
- A Park Tool Tyre tool
- A Park Tool Cassette cleaning tool
- An Sram PC 830 II 8-gear chain
- Two Big Apple Reflex Tyres
- A San Marco Rolls Saddle Classic Black
That should be enough to make the bike usable again. I also have a medium cleaning job to do, but that goes without saying. I just cleared the payment for the above order, so it will be at least 3-4 days before I get to start fitting everything on the bike and take it for its first spin in something like 4 years.
I’ll get some WD40 and a few other things from a local store. A few of the cables are very rusty looking, so I might change those as well. I will make a point to check in with a local bicycle dealer to see what magic products they have to make the cleaning job a bit easier. A teflon spray might also be a fantastic idea.
A few other things are also going on, but I will spend the following days filling that in here.
